Phones, TVs, and radios will sound off as part of a national preparedness drill
If your phone, radio or TV blares an emergency alert today, don’t worry — it’s just a drill.
A test of Alert Ready, Canada’s national public alert system, is scheduled for Wednesday at 12:55 p.m. AT across most provinces, including Prince Edward Island.
The system lets Canadians know if there is an immediate, life-threatening event — such as flooding, tornadoes, fires or a chemical spill — for which they need to take action, like take cover or evacuate a certain area.
Today’s test is part of a routine and pre-scheduled national preparedness exercise during Emergency Preparedness Week.
The alert message will clearly state that it’s only a test, and no action is required.
